Enterprises are now learning the lesson SMBs learn every year: usage isn't a strategy.

You don't need a nine-figure budget crisis to learn this the hard way. Define the metric first. Pick the tool that's built to hit it. That's the whole model — for a five-person firm or a company the size of Uber.

⬡ Exhibit A

Uber blew through its entire 2026 AI coding budget by April.

Not from one bad decision — from an internal push to get engineers using AI as much as possible, tracked on leaderboards ranking staff by usage. Adoption soared. Then Uber's own COO admitted there was no clear line yet between all that usage and actually better products for riders and drivers. There's a name for it now: tokenmaxxing. Usage went up. Nobody had defined what "working" meant.

⬡ Same Mistake, Different Zeros

A five-person firm with eleven AI subscriptions and four active users made the exact same mistake Uber made. So did the marketing manager who signed up for three overlapping tools because each one looked good in a demo. Scale doesn't change the error. It just changes how many zeros are attached to the invoice.

The fix isn't "use AI less" or "spend less." It's sequencing: name the metric before you name the tool. If you can't say what success looks like in 30 days, you're not ready to buy anything — no matter how big or small the budget is.

This made the list because it's built around the metric, not the usage. AdCreative.ai generates ad creative — banners, social ads, product shots — against a stated goal: click-through rate, conversion rate, scroll-stopping performance. Every asset gets scored before you spend a dollar putting it in front of an audience.

That's the model this whole issue is about, in one tool: define what "working" means first, then let the spend follow the number — not the other way around.

Monday · August 31, 2026 Here's what happened in AI this week — and why the gap between "using AI" and "AI actually working" just got a lot more visible. Frontier labs are raising billions. Agent deployment is tripling. And 76% of small businesses now say they use AI. Read those three sentences again — because the fourth one is the one that matters: only 14% have actually integrated it into how they run the business. ⬡ This Week's AI News Roundup 🎙️ Voice AI goes native OpenAI launches...

Monday · August 24, 2026 · Issue #[FILL IN] Yesterday, Anthropic expanded Claude's integration with Google Workspace — direct access to Gmail and Drive, plus more mobile reach for its Cowork tool. Small headline. Bigger pattern underneath it. The AI tools winning right now aren't asking you to go somewhere new. They're showing up inside the inbox, the calendar, and the drive you already have open. Today's tool is a good example of a company that figured that out early. ⬡ The Shift Worth...

Monday · August 17, 2026 · Issue #[FILL IN] Today, Google is shutting off its Imagen 4 API. If any tool in your stack — a logo generator, a content workflow, an internal app — was quietly built on top of it, it doesn't fail gracefully. It just breaks. Hard error, no warning banner, starting today. This isn't really a story about image generation. It's a story about what happens when your business quietly depends on someone else's roadmap. ⬡ The Angst — This Week's Fear "We built our whole...
